"BOWSER AND BLUE"

BOWSER AND BLUE - latest career notes

George Bowser and Rick Blue have been writing and performing music and comedy together since 1978. Colorectal Surgeons around the world are familiar with them through the song 'Working Where the Sun Don't Shine', which was first heard on 'Madly Off In All Directions' in 1997.
Bowser and Blue will be seen this year on the CBC-TV broadcast of “Mid-Life Crazy,” with host Cathy Jones, taped at the Winnipeg Comedy Festival this April.
In the fall of 2004,  they toured Performing Arts Centres and Community Theatres in Alberta, and will bring their show to Ontario theatres later in 2005, with a tour of Atlantic Canada to follow in early 2006.
In 2003 they collaborated with award-winning cartoonist Aislin (Terry Mosher) to produce 'The Illustrated Canadian Songbook', which comes with a companion CD. The Christmas TV special 'Two Nuts Roasting On An Open Fire' was nominated for a Gemini. Their latest CD release on 'You Guys' label is called 'Pull My Finger'. They have recorded a dozen others, including three for Montreal’s Justin Time label.
They have recorded with Supertramp’s Rick Davies, and with Kimberley Rew, Vince de la Cruz, Alex Cooper and Katrina Leskanich of Katrina and the Waves. They also recorded a song with Blair and the late Gary MacLean, of MacLean and MacLean.
They have written and appeared in many full-length Theatre shows, most recently the musical 'The Paris of America,' which ran for seven sold-out weeks at Montreal's Centaur Theatre in 2003. Previous shows, including the smash hits “Blokes” and “Blokes Deux,” are listed elsewhere on this site.

Bowser and Blue provided the music for the NFB animated film “Scant Sanity,” by John Weldon, and for the TV show “Misguided Angels.” The instrumental guitar music for that show, “Red Guitars,” is what you hear in the auditorium between shows at B&B concerts.

George Bowser

George Bowser

George was born in Sussex, England, and was educated privately in one of those British schools (Tonbridge) where boys sleep in rows of iron beds that sag in the middle, and are forced to take cold showers and go to chapel a lot in exchange for a pretty good classical education and lots of rugger.
He immigrated to Canada in 1970 - just in time for the October crisis, which he said was not his fault, although being British he was pretty sure that actually in a sort of a way it was. He played lead guitar with several Montreal bands, before joining Bowser and Blue, as Bowser. George plays guitars and bass, and can make recognisable musical sounds with many other instruments, including his mouth.

Ricky Blue
Ricky Blue has an MA in English from Concordia University, and was involved in bands and media music in Montreal for over twenty years. In 1981 he won an international "Clio" award for excellence in advertising. He has performed naked on radio and television. His life had no real meaning, however, until he began to play with Bowser and Blue. Rick plays guitar and harmonica, and sings in a rather pleasant baritone when George will let him. Ricky Blue
